T2X, Endless Rain, and Circle of Stone and Shadow I prefer to be dropped into a place and left to explore freely. I haven't played any of the Calendra missions, but in general I'm not a fan of scripted events and linear progression in Thief missions.

I can't comment on either of the two games because I haven't played them.ĮDIT: I forgot Mark of the Ninja! Amazing 2D stealth game. There's also Styx, which is a third person stealth game with similar mechanics to Thief. And if you liked the steampunk-inspired world and interesting lore of Thief, Dishonored will probably please you. The level design and sheer number of options you have are fantastic, however. Stealth is still an enjoyable way to play, but it's more about hiding behind things and staying above or below enemies where possible. There are no light mechanics (shadows can conceal you from a distance, but it's almost useless) and sound is very basic.

You could also try the fan-made game The Dark Mod which is very similar to Thief.ĭishonored has already been mentioned, but based on what you said about Thief 2014 I should warn you that the stealth mechanics in Dishonored are not as deep as Thief's and you might be disappointed if you go in expecting a deep stealth game.

Sorry if it's obvious, but I've seen people ask this question who are unaware that fan missions exist and are genuinely surprised when I mention it! I'll be the person to ask if you've played fan missions for Thief Gold and Thief 2.

Thief is a series of stealth video games in which the player takes the role of Garrett, a master thief in a fantasy/steampunk world resembling a cross between the Late Middle Ages and the Victorian era, with more advanced technologies interspersed.
